Ever made your own hummus?
It is so easy, much nicer than shop bought and has no additives.
Ingredients:
400g Dried Chickpeas. ( Or 1 tin -no need to cook them )
3 tbsp. Tahini
2tbsp Lemon juice
5tbsp Olive oil ( adjust to your preference – I prefer to add 1tbsp and water when mixing then drizzle oil over when served )
Garlic clove
Salt and pepper to taste ( I like to add chilli flakes to mine )
Place ingredients in a blender and whizz it all together. Dried chickpeas are hard to come by at the moment, but if you can, try sprouting them first. The process of Sprouting your chickpeas actually makes it easier for the body to absorb the minerals and protein and also makes them easier to digest.
Method:
Soak chickpeas for 8-12 hours. Rinse and drain, then place in container for 3 days ( You will need to rinse twice a day during this time ) Chickpeas will sprout shoots of 1/2 cm and then they are ready to use. Rinse and cook in a pressure cooker for 20mins or microwave for 10. Place all ingredients in a blender and whizz together. There you have it delicious homemade hummus.
Chickpeas are a good source of dietary fibre and vitamin B6. Vitamin B6 can help decrease inflammation in the body which is good for brain health. Something we all need just now.
Take care everyone and enjoy
